Tess (1979)
Kinski's first major film role is also one of her best. Based on the Thomas Hardy novel, the film won several Oscars for art and cinematography. Directed by Roman Polanski.
Cat People (1982)
A remake of the 1942 film of the same name. The plot is a bit fuzzy, but for some viewers Nastassja in the nude more than compensates. With John Heard and Malcolm McDowell. Directed by Paul Schrader. BUY the DVD > Cat People
Exposed(1983)
To critic Leonard Maltin, this film seemed like three different movies, all of them strange. Also stars Harvey Keitel and Rudolf Nureyev. Nastassja plays a fashion model from the Midwest who gets mixed up in a bizarre international terrorist plot.
Unfaithfully Yours(1984)
Another remake. A strong cast, including Dudley Moore and Armand Assante, and some laughs make it an enjoyable film, but not as good as the 1948 original.
The Hotel New Hampshire(1984)
Kinski, in a bear costume, is just one of the many bizarre characters in this film version of the John Irving novel. Directed by Tony Richardson.
Paris, Texas(1984)
German director Wim Wenders directed this English-language film based on a story by Sam Shepherd. Many critics liked it, but it's not one of my favorites.
Maria's Lovers(1985)
Despite an outstanding cast (Kinski, Robert Mitchum, John Savage, Keith Carradine), this tale, set in a Pennsylvania mining town and directed by Andrei Konchalovsky, is ponderous and depressing.
Faraway, So Close(Ger., 1993)
This sequel to Wings of Desire was also directed by Wim Wenders. Kinski plays an angel.
Terminal Velocity(1994)
Kinski stars with Charlie Sheen in this light-hearted skydiving mystery story directed by Deran Sarafian. BUY the DVD > Terminal Velocity
Father's Day(1997)
Even Billy Crystal and Robin Williams, as Kinski's ex-lovers, can't keep this remake of the French Les Compères from collapsing in a dull thud.
The Claim(2000)
Kinski appears in another Thomas Hardy adaptation, The Mayor of Casterbridge, set in the American Old West. Stars Peter Mullan. BUY the DVD > The Claim
