Hollywood and Prohibition: Emil Jannings, fond of an alcoholic drink now and then, had the misfortune of landing in Hollywood during Prohibition. But one day he happened to discover his German-speaking washwoman in the laundry room drinking what looked like a bottle of beer. He asked her, "Was trinken Sie da, Frau Navratil?" She replied that she was enjoying some self-brewed Bohemian pilsner. Delighted, Jannings rushed out to find his wife, Gussy Holl, and shouted to her: "Schluß mit Waschfrau, Gussylein! Die Navratil wird unser Braumeister!" ("No more washwoman, Gussy dear! Mrs. Navratil is going to be our brewmaster!"). - From Damals in Neubabelsberg by Jürgen Schebera, Edition Leipzig, 1990 (p. 54)
