There are more than 1,000 film festivals each year. Listed below are film festivals in the German-speaking countries of Austria, Germany, and Switzerland, plus German-related events in the U.S. and elsewhere. (We have also included French and Italian-speaking Swiss locales just because we felt like it.) For additional film festivals around the world, see our alphabetical Film Festival Links below.

JANUARY
Berlin & Beyond Film Festival | San Francisco, California
The B&B festival is held each January at the Castro Theatre in association with the Goethe Institute San Francisco, the Consulates General of Germany and Switzerland, and the Austrian Cultural Institute, New York. The January 2008 B&B was the 13th annual event. The 9th annual "Berlin & Beyond" film festival ran January 8-14, 2004 at the Castro. Since 2002, the "Berlin & Beyond" festival has featured additional screenings outside San Franciscoat Point Arena near Mendocino. Other past "B&B" highlights have included a special showing of a newly restored version of Ernst Lubitsch’s 1919 silent classic "Madame Dubarry" (in 2001), along with a live appearance by German director Doris Dörrie, whose films were honored in San Francisco, including "Erleuchtung garantiert" (1999), "Bin ich schön?" and "Mitten ins Herz". - For more information about this year’s "Berlin & Beyond" see the Berlin & Beyond Web site.
