The AFI Fest is held each November in Hollywood. Since 2002, the AFI Fest has had a new and improved venue at the ArcLight Hollywood cinema complex on Sunset Boulevard (photo). Most screenings take place at this new, state-of-the-art complex with 15 theaters, including the historic Cinerama dome.

Although the AFI event features mostly English-language films, the AFI Fest also showcases foreign films. In 2002 the Made in Germany series was added in cooperation with the Export Union of German Cinema. The 2002 festival featured the award-winning German production Grill Point (2002, German title: Halbe Treppe, written and directed by Andreas Dresen) and other recent German films. Since then the "Made in Germany" series has been a regular part of the AFI Fest. Below is a selection of the German-language films screened during the 2002 AFI Fest:

Recent AFI Fests have also featured German and Austrian-made films, including CALLING HEDY LAMARR, HEAD ON (GEGEN DIE WAND), and QUIET AS A MOUSE (MUXMÄUSCHEN STILL) in 2004.
